Every runner at every level is desperate to avoid injury during the training process and part of the challenge of competing in the marathon is getting to the start line in one piece. You can limit your risk of sustaining an injury by following some basic advice:
-
Always train in the correct footwear and renew your shoes regularly
-
Follow a sensible training programme
-
Warm up and cool down by following our training videos to help prepare and stretch the body in the correct way
-
Listen to your body, if you are consistently getting pain in the same area and it is forcing you to change the way you run as a consequence get it checked out!
-
Look at cross training to include activities that will help to improve the efficiency and quality of running.
-
Pilates can be really helpful in improving your core strength and there are some running specific classes available from Body Rehab Studios contact info@bodyrehabstudios.com
The nature of marathon training is that your body is repeatedly put through the same stresses and strains, the chances of an injury disappearing without a period of rest or some professional help are very small.
Luckily Body Rehab Studios are here to help, as part of their role as the official physiotherapist of the Brighton Marathon they are offering half price assessments of £15.
