Elite Entries for the 2012 Brighton Marathon

Race organisers of the 2012 Brighton Marathon are looking to build on the 2011 results by inviting a number of British and foreign elite marathon runners.

In 2011, the winning time in the men's race was 2:16.07 by Kenyan Philemon Kiprop Boit, almost three minutes faster than the 2010 winning time of 2:19.05. Richard Bett of Kenya finished 2nd in 2:16:31 and Anbessy Tolossa of Ethiopia was 3 in 2:16:53 Britain's Dan Robinson (Stroud) was 4th in 2:19:11.

In the women's race Britain's Allyson Dixon (Chester-le-Street) won in a time of 2:34.50, more than 30 minutes faster than the 2010 winning time. Lucy MacAlister (Bristol & West) finished 2nd in 2:40:33 and Julie Briscoe (Wakefield) was 3rd in 2:41:07.

As in 2011, elite athletes will have use of elite drinks stations situated along the course at 5km intervals.

British runners who ran a marathon in 2011 in a time of under 2:25 (men) and under 2:45 and wish to be considered as an invited athlete for the 2012 race should contact Richard Nerurkar at Richard.Nerurkar@groundedevents.co.uk

As in 2011 there are additional cash prizes for the top 3 British male and female finishers.

In 2010, the winning times were 2:19:05 (men) and 3:05:20 (women); this year we are looking to see big improvements in these times and stronger elite fields are being assembled.

On the men's side we will be providing pacemakers for different target finishing times from 2:12 to 2:20. There is a time bonus award of $3,000 for a sub 2:12 male performance based on a top-3 placing. First prize in the men's race is $5,000 (if sub 2:12).

On the women's side there is also a $3,000 bonus for a sub 2:35 finishing time (top-3) and the first prize is $3,000 in the women's race. The elite women, like the men, will run as part of the mass race.
