The Course 2012

The race route for the Brighton Marathon starts with a loop of gorgeous Preston Park, and then takes in the best of the city centre including Brighton Pavilion and fabulous stretches of coastal road, including panoramic views that you'd expect where the glorious South Downs meet the English Channel.

Generally, it is a fast course, held exclusively on roads and tarmac promenade and the entire route is free of traffic.

Of course there are some undulations in the route, principally in the first 11 miles of the race, while the last 15 miles is either flat or downhill.

NEW for 2012 is the removal of the loop around Ovingdean Hall College. This removes one of the climbs runners have faced at the previous two Brighton Marathons, making the course that bit faster. The distance removed from Ovingdean is made up in Portslade where the route will be taking in Portslade High Street, where we hope the retailers and residents will show their support to the thousands who will run down Boundary Road for the very first time.

The last miles are the same as before; so the runners will still face the test along Basin Road South and enjoy running through thousands of spectator's along the Promenade before finishing on Madeira Drive, just east of the brilliant Brighton Pier.
